WanderWoman™ Fall Greek Islands Getaway: Fall 2012
Come to beautiful Greece this fall and extend your summer. Travel to the most beautiful islands in all of Greece: Mykonos and Santorini. Enjoy beautiful sunsets, eat healthy Mediterranean cuisine, explore ancient sites, and relax! Fall is a wonderful time to visit these popular islands; the weather is pleasant and most of the crowds have gone home.

Athens Greece (2 nights)
We begin our journey in Athens at our favorite boutique-style hotel located beneath the Acropolis in the Plaka area (the old section of the city). Enjoy the roof-top pool and panoramic city views or take advantage of the hotel's spa amenities. Even if you have been to Athens before there is always more to see. A visit to the newly opened Acropolis Museum is a must. We will explore the some of the hidden gems of this city dating back to ancient times with our favorite local guide. (Parthenon photo by J. From Athens ferry (3 hrs) to the island of Mykonos (Myconos).
Mykonos (3 nights)
Mykonos is best known for its beaches and white-washed cubic buildings with colorful doors adorned by bougainvilleas. Our hotel is situated in the maze-like streets of Mykonos Town (Hora) within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and points of interest. Enjoy a day at the beach where the movie Shirley Valentine was filmed or relax pool side at our hotel. Sip freshly squeezed orange juice or local wine at a seaside tavern. Explore the scared Island of Delos, the second brightest spot on earth, and interestingly the mythical birthplace of the goddess Artemis and her twin brother Apollo who was associated with the sun.
From Mykonos travel by ferry (2.5 hrs) to the island of Santorini (Thira, Fira).
Santorini (3 nights)
The island of Santorini is believed to be Plato's the lost Atlantis. Archaeological evidence indicates that a highly advanced civilization flourished here over 3500 years ago. Visit the prehistory museum and see the finds from this ancient culture that disappeared. Visit the volcanic black sand beaches of Perisa and Kamari and hike to the top of ancient Thira located between the two beaches. Sample local wines and feast on local delicacies. Our hotel is perched high on the caldera overlooking the Aegean Sea. Enjoy a sunset cruise excursion to the hot springs at the center of the caldera.
From Santorini optional flight back to Athens Airport to connect to flight home.
Optional Crete extension 4 Nights
If you would like to stay in Greece longer, continue on to Crete to visit Knossos and Crete's most picturesque port of Chania. Travel by ferry to Heraklion, Crete (1 nt) to visit the amazing archaeological site of Knossos, a must see. On the second day transfer by minibus to the old Venetian port of Chania (3 nts), where we stay in a hotel that was a 17th-century palazzo located in the old port on a pedestrian street. Learn Greek cooking and take an optional hike in the beautiful Samaria Gorge. Live, Laugh & Travel!

The pace of the itinerary is leisurely with ample time to relax or for exploring the uniqueness of each island. Our travel groups are NOT motor coach tours, although occasionally we use minibuses for locally guided tours that are included in the itineraries. In addition to included sightseeing extra tours can be arranged locally. A knowledgeable Wanderwoman group escort will accompany each group to ensure you a stress-free vacation. So whether you are a first time traveler or a seasoned veteran we invite you to join us on our fall girlfriends' getaway to beautiful Greece!
G E T T I N G T O G R E E C E
The group will meet at the Athens airport in Greece at 12 noon for a group transfer to our hotel in Athens center. Although airfare is NOT included we will gladly help with making your flight arrangements. Also we can assist you with any pre or post tour arrangements in Greece and beyond. Optional flight from Santorini to Athens will be in time for flights departing Athens after 10:30 am .
T O U R
The tour price includes privately guided tours with official Greek tourist board guides of the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum, the Ancient Agora, the Plaka area, a tour of the island of Santorini including a visit to a local winery.Delos Island tour is with a larger group. Admission fees to above sites are included. Other tours are optional and can be prearranged for you by the tour director. Optional activities include Greek cooking classes, scuba diving, boat excursions, hiking, etc. You can choose activities to fill everyday or you can just relax and enjoy the beaches and the local atmosphere. Even if you choose not to partake in additional tours your tour director will provide insights into Greek history and culture.
This WanderWoman™ tour is escorted by Erja Lipponen, owner & founder of Eurynome Journeys, who will attend to details to assure you a hassle-free vacation. Erja has traveled to Greece numerous times over the past 26 years, both leading groups and alone, and is looking forward to sharing some of her favorite places in Greece with you and discovering new favorites. On days that are "at leisure," Erja will be available to arrange activities, recommend restaurants, and lead optional hikes/walks. H O T E L S
We avoid the typical group tour oriented hotels and stay at smaller quaint hotels and inns with local ambiance. Each hotel is within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and points of interest - giving you freedom to explore right out the door! The accommodations are in Greek-style hotels. The rooms are decorated simply in island-style. Each room is different, but all rooms have private baths, direct dial telephones, and TVs. Some of the hotels do not have elevators but have lots of stairs (especially in Santorini). In Athens our group will stay at a boutique style hotel which has been chosen for its location and amenities (roof-top pool, etc.).

We may be able to arrange for a triple room at a slightly reduced rate if three are traveling together.
Price includes: 9 days / 8 nights accommodations in Greece; domestic transportation in Greece including ferry, mini bus, and taxis, and domestic Greek flight (except: flight from Santorini to Athens, so that those wishing to remain in the islands longer can do so). Tour price also includes 8 breakfasts, and 3 healthy Mediterranean-style dinners (Dinner drinks and alcoholic beverages are not included).

Heraklion 1 night, Chania 3 nights, guided tour of archaeological site of Knossos and Heraklion Museum, guided Chania walking tour, admission fees, transfers, breakfast daily, group dinner and group lunch,optional Smaria Gorge hike.

Add $100 to deposit for Crete option. Within 90 days of departure payment in full is due.Travel insurance should be purchase within 14 days of your first payment.
